It is a common misconception that if you have received a Notice of Suspension from the RTA that there is nothing you can do about it. There are several ways you can keep your license or reduce the suspension period in some cases.
A driver’s licence can be suspended for a variety of reasons including:
-
Accumulation of demerit points on full unrestricted licence, Provisional 1 or Provisional 2 licence
-
Speeding over 30km/h
-
Any speeding offence if you are on a Provisional 1 licence
-
Non payment of fines
-
Immediate suspension following a drink driving offence
-
Loss of demerit points while on probationary licence
If your licence is suspended it is illegal to drive on a road or road related area. If you are caught driving while suspended, serious penalties can apply.
