A client recently sought our legal advice after their de-facto relationship of over 10 years had broken down. Neither party had really discussed the situation with the other and each were seeking legal advice.
There were no children of the relationship. Our client had made considerable financial contributions to the assets of the relationship, and whilst the other party has a was capable of earning high income earning, they had not been exercising their full earning capacity.
The other party had however, made considerable contributions to the domestic chores and maintenance of the former de-facto matrimonial home.
After a combination of negotiation with the other party’s solicitor and between the parties themselves, we were able to settle the matter in a timely, cost effective fashion without resort to litigation. Once a settlement was reached, we were also able to liaise with our client’s financial institution and the other party’s solicitor in order to co-ordinate a timely transfer of the property in accordance with the settlement.
Our client was very pleased with the outcome, the avoidance of litigation and our practical advice and assistance.
