Part III of the Child Support (Assessment) Act 1989 (Cth) outlines the eligibility requirements of children to receive child support. In order to be eligible to receive child support, the following requirements must be met:

the child must have been born on or after the date of commencement of the Child Support (Assessment)Act 1989 (Cth), which is 1st October, 1989, or
-
the child must be the child of parents who separated on or after the date of commencement of the act (1st October, 1989), or
-
the child is a brother or a sister of an eligible child.
Children excluded are children who are under the care of somebody, as specified by a child welfare law.
